15 Capen St. Residence

Spring 2021

For this project, I took influence from Robert Venturi's Vanna Venturi house. It was important for me to select a site where the constructed architecture would be forced to interact with its “mundane” surroundings. Being located in a relatively dense area of Medford, MA I designed this house for both everyday and social use. The house has a twisting way of entry yet it becomes open and vibrant in the central space. The main room has built-in seating in intimate and disparate locations allowing for a range of social interactions. The room is centered around a hearth and a pizza oven, both of which can serve as focal points of connection.
